Grounds Maintenance Technician

Duties and Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Responsible for orderly opening and closing of the building when required.
  2. Provide a safe, clean, comfortable, secure, worry free outdoor environment for employees to work and visitors to enjoy.
  3. Monitor all areas of the grounds on a regular basis to ensure problems are corrected immediately.
  4. Perform basic grounds maintenance utilizing hand and power tools.
  5. Perform common maintenance and repairs of power tools and equipment.
  6. Trim and maintain; shrubs, trees, turf, and mulched areas.
  7. Paint, maintain and repair, exterior decking, railings, fencing and signage.
  8. Perform basic outdoor exhibit maintenance, repairs and installations.
  9. Apply basic pesticides, herbicides and plant/lawn care products.
  10. Perform minor construction & fabrication projects.
  11. Assist with exhibit installations during major switches.
  12. Adheres to the policies and procedures of the Museum.
  13. Other duties as required to fulfill the duties of the position.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum two (2) years experience grounds maintenance.
  2. Ability to read product labels and safety instructions.
  3. Demonstrated ability in use of power tools, equipment and safety procedures.
  4. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and bend without restrictions.
  5. Demonstrated organizational and problem solving skills.
  6. Must be able to pass drug test and background check. 

Hours

This position is for 25-30 hours of work per week.

Summer Camp Teacher

A Summer Camp Teacher is needed for the South Florida Science Museum Summer Camp, a ten week interactive day camp for young students interested in science.  The Camp Teacher must be certified to teach by the state of Florida and be First Aid and CPR qualified. 

Selected teacher will be responsible for safe supervision and instruction of 20 - 25 children from ages 4 – 12.  The teachers should be excellent in motivating students to participate in science activities and creative crafts and the position includes planning and implementing a variety of safe and fun physical education activities.  This person will be also responsible for supervising volunteers and camp counselors within the classroom.

Education Department Intern

The Education department is looking for an intern to help with school groups, summer camps, planetarium programs, aquarium programs and much more.  If you enjoy working with children and the public, this position is right for you.  Qualifications: Must have completed at least 2 years of university study and experience working with children preferred.  Must pass background check administered by Museum.  Starting and ending dates are flexible.  This is an unpaid part-time  position.  Pleasesend all qualified resumes to education@sfsm.org
