Now Open!

Have you ever wondered how a chameleon can see two different things at once? Or how a fly can walk up walls? The South Florida Science Museum will give you answers to these questions with their newest exhibit, The Robot Zoo. The Robot Zoo will bring Nature's coolest creatures to the Museum in robotic form so visitors may discover their fascinating features through larger-than-life, interactive demonstrations.

The Robot Zoo, from Evergreen Exhibitions features a variety of interactive games for visitors to experience while visiting the Museum. Each mechanical creature comes with engaging and informative text panels along with multiple, interactive displays.

  • "Keep an Eye on You" demonstrates the chameleon's ability to see multiple objects at once. Visitors can stare into a video camera and experience the split version of the chameleon's own vision.
  • "Tongue Gun" allows a sharpshooter to reel out the sharp tongue of the oversized chameleon in order to hit a target with the sticky surface.
  • "Hide and Seek" is the ultimate "dress up" game, where children and adults cancover themselves with different fabrics to blend in to their surroundings and view the miraculous disappearance on screen.
  • "Eye to Eye" allows visitors to see the incredible vision of an average housefly, through compound lenses.
  • "Swat A Fly" challenges would-be fly hunters to a 'Whack A Fly' face-off
  • "Sticky Feet" uses Velcro and ingenuity to demonstrate the incredible surface of a fly's feet and their ability to scale walls and ceilings.
  • "Mr. Platypus" presents one of Nature's strangest creatures in moveable parts.

Rounding out the exhibition is an interactive display of a robotic "Body Shop" which demonstrates the incredible intricacies of biology through man-made machinery.

The Robot Zoo runs through September 2008.
