PALM BEACH – Pint-sized paleontologists raised their chisels and brushes to be counted and organizers at the South Florida Science Museum listened! Extended by popular demand--Bank of America’s Diggin' Dinosaurs: An Adventure Millions of Years in the Making at the South Florida Science Museum will now run through May 9, 2010. The extended schedule offers dino-fans of all ages an additional week of digging adventure both inside and out of the West Palm Beach- based museum.
“From Barney to a feared T-Rex, children of all ages are captivated by Dinosaurs,” said Fabiola Brumley, Palm Beach County Market President for Bank of America. “Bank of America is proud to partner with the South Florida Science Museum to bring such an exciting and intriguing exhibition to the residents and visitors to Palm Beach County.”
Featuring larger-than-life predators including the Monolophosaurus, Tuojiangosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Giganotosaurus and Velociraptor, the hands-on exhibit enables visitors to experience dinosaurs by handling an Oviraptor egg, excavating a skeleton, or taking a turn at the Wheel of Dinosaur Misfortune.
“We are pleased to announce the extension of the popular “Diggin’Dinosaurs” exhibit” noted Dr. Rachel Docekal, Chief Development and Marketing Officer for the South Florida Science Museum. “Hundreds of children and adults have visited the Museum over the past three months to experience many of the most-feared terrestrial carnivores that once roamed the planet. We made a well-received decision to extend the exhibit in order to accommodate the high demand from guests.”
"Diggin' Dinosaurs" is part of the celebration commemorating the discovery of Suzie, the Ice Age mastodon currently on display at the Museum. The skeleton was found in excellent condition during an excavation project in West Palm Beach in 1969. Suzie was a juvenile mastodon, a type of pre-historic elephant that roamed Florida and much of North America during Earth's most recent Ice Age.
The South Florida Science Museum provides curious minds of all ages with an entertaining and educational journey through science and technology. Located in West Palm Beach, the museum features more than 50 hands-on exhibits, a digital planetarium, freshwater and saltwater aquariums, as well as natural history exhibitions. Each year the museum welcomes more than 120,000 visitors and reaches more than 40,000 students through workshops at the museum and outreach programs to local schools.
