SHARK WEEKEND AT SOUTH FLORIDA SCIENCE MUSEUM
(West Palm Beach, Fl) — If the lifeguards order you out of the water along South Florida beaches during shark week, head straight to the South Florida Science Museum for a series of JAWS-dropping, shark-week-inspired activities planned for the weekend of January 28 – 30. The FINtastic fun starts on Friday with Pirates “Night at the Museum.” On Saturday and Sunday guests can dive into some of the Museum’s shark-themed edutainment. The weekend also marks the opening of the Museum’s new exhibit, It’s a Nano World.
Ahoy, matey! Pirates “Night at the Museum” on January 28 will feature many scient-arrr-ific activities. Buccaneers can enter a costume contest, try their luck at winning some treasure, look for loot in the Museum’s dig pit, check out the creepy crawlies in the new Bugz! exhibit, observe the night sky in the Museum’s Observatory, try the Ham Radio Center and much more. Free food and beverages will be provided.
On Saturday and Sunday, January 29-30, guests can dare to take a deeper look into the fascinating world of sharks. Museum visitors will get a chance to pet a live shark, dive into the dig pit for shark teeth, create a shark tooth necklace, learn fascinating facts about sharks and much more!
It's a Nano World, the Museum’s new exhibit opens on Saturday, January 29th with a sneak peek on Friday, January 28th. The 3,000 square-foot interactive exhibition focuses on the very itsy bitsy things that are outside of our 20/20 vision. The exhibit features hands-on learning with very tiny tools, microscopes, a giant magnifying glass, videos and games to discover more about the biological wonders of the infinitesimal nano world that's too small to see in our everyday life. The exhibit will be on display through May 15, 2011.
The South Florida Science Museum delivers entertaining and educational journeys through the many worlds of science and technology for curious minds of all ages. Located just off I-95 and Southern Blvd. in West Palm Beach, the Museum features more than 50 hands-on exhibits, a digital planetarium, freshwater and saltwater aquariums, as well as natural history exhibitions. New happenings at Museum include the Bugz! exhibit, an Amateur Radio Center open on weekends and holidays as well as aquarium feedings and shark pettings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. Each year the museum welcomes more than 125,000 visitors and reaches more than 45,000 students through workshops at the museum and outreach programs to local schools. Established in 1961, the museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to exciting curiosity and furthering the understanding and appreciation of science and technology.
Admission to the Museum for Pirates “Night at the Museum” on Friday, January 28th is: Adults $10.00, Children $6.00 for non-members. Museum members and children three and under are free. Admission on Saturday, January 29th and Sunday, January 30th is: Adults $11.95; Seniors 62+ $10.50; and children ages three-12 $8.95, children under three years and Museum members are free. Admission includes the It’s a Nano World exhibit.
