Have you ever looked in the mouth of an Ice Age mastodon, touched a 232 pound meteorite or been up close and personal with a shark? As you peer through the glass of the aquariums or enjoy a planetarium show at the South Florida Science Museum, you can also discover the many other exciting offerings that have amazed the community for the past 50 years. On October 22, the community is invited to celebrate 50 years of science at the Museum’s Fabulous 50th Birthday Celebration. The Museum is offering 50 percent off admission prices for the day.

Science of Chocolate

Anyone out there? The South Florida Science Museum announces its new Amateur Radio station, according to Lew Crampton, Chief Executive Officer of the Museum. With help from licensed Amateur Radio operators, often called “Hams,” museum visitors will be able to “get on the air” and talk around the world using amateur radio. Contacts will also be attempted using ham radio satellites in space.

If the lifeguards order you out of the water along South Florida beaches during shark week, head straight to the South Florida Science Museum for a series of JAWS-dropping, shark-week-inspired activities planned for the weekend of January 28 – 30. The FINtastic fun starts on Friday with Pirates “Night at the Museum.” On Saturday and Sunday guests can dive into some of the Museum’s shark-themed edutainment. The weekend also marks the opening of the Museum’s new exhibit, It’s a Nano World
