Exhibits Volunteer: An Exhibits
Volunteer helps explain the museum exhibits
and provides customer service to our guests.
Advanced Exhibit Volunteer training sessions
include Egyptian artifacts, Ice Age fossils,
minerals, plasma ball and Señor Stuffee.Enjoy interacting with families of
all ages in a fun environment!This is a great opportunity to learn
public speaking customer service skills.
Aquarium Docent: An Aquarium Docent
presents interesting information about the
aquatic life in the McGinty Aquarium, demonstrates
the touch tank animals, helps maintain a quiet
aquarium atmosphere and may assist the aquarium
staff to maintain the fish tanks.This is a great opportunity to gain
further knowledge about aquariums and marine
life as well as learn presentation skills.
Summer Camp Assistant: A Summer
Camp Assistant will be responsible for helping
the camp counselors with day to day camp activities.This includes but is not limited to
prepping supplies, assisting with activities
and general supervision.This is a great way to gain classroom
experience and be a part of our fun summer
camp program.
Behind the Scenes Volunteer:
A Behind the Scenes Volunteer helps in the
Membership, Special Events, Education, and
Public Relations departments. These volunteers
help with filing, typing, organizing, mailings,
phone calls, data entry etc.Learn office skills while being part of
a fun and fast-paced department.
Museum Store Volunteer: A Museum
Store volunteer helps maintain the museum
store, helps with inventory, assists with
crowd control, gives the store manager a break,
and helps visitors. Volunteers must be at
least 18 years old and have excellent communication
skills.Retail experience is a plus.
PlanetariumVolunteer: Planetarium Volunteers
conduct solar viewing with the Sunspotter
solar viewing device as well as the Hydrogen
Alpha Telescope.This position requires the ability
to stand/sit outside for 45 minutes to an
hour at a time in direct sunlight.Volunteers who are at least 18 years
of age with a thorough knowledge in astronomy
may in time, become a planetarium presenter,
giving programs and pointing out constellations
in the dome.
Outdoor Trail: An Outdoor Trail
volunteer guides visitors through our Outdoor
Science Trail and explains our interactive
exhibits.This position requires the ability
to stand/sit outside for extended periods
of time.Knowledge of native everglades plant life
is a plus.

Science educator needed to join the Guest Experience team at the South Florida Science Museum. This exciting position offers the opportunity to facilitate learning about diverse science topics across audiences ranging from the general public to school groups in varied settings including the Museum, schools, out-of-school time, and public events. This position requires a degree in a field of science or education and has special focus on educational technology. Spanish fluency and teaching certification are also desirable.

Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist
Bookkeeper/Payroll Specialist needed to join the South Florida Science Museum team. Non-profit administration & previous experience with Sage/MIP software a plus. Responsibilities include: accounting/finance processes including payroll input, assistance with budget development & administration, strategic planning and cash flow, and grant administration/reporting as part of a departmental team. This position will also assist with human resources tasks.
