Young Friends of the Science Museum
Host Bloomingdale's Fashion Show
On Saturday, April 19, 2008, Bloomingdale’s in The Gardens Mall looked like New York City’s Fashion Week as local celebrities, including WPTV’s Jay Cashmere and Tania Rogers, along with Science Museum supporters, children - even dogs - took to the runway in support of the South Florida Science Museum. Palm Beach County’s most fashionable social set packed the second floor of Bloomingdale’s in support of the show’s host, The Young Friends and Families of the South Florida Science Museum.

With music pumping and WILD 95.5’s Virginia Lang as emcee, guests couldn’t take their eyes off the runway as the always stylish models strutted their stuff down the catwalk showing off the latest fashions for men, women, and of course, children. At the conclusion of the show, guests shopped until they dropped making sure to raise as much money as possible to support the Science Museum. For the second year in a row, Bloomingdale’s donated 10% of supporters’ tracked sales from the day of the event to the South Florida Science Museum.

Sponsors of the event included: Bloomingdale’s at the Gardens Mall, Gunster Yoakley, Attorneys at Law, and VIVE Magazine.

Co-Chairs for the Young Friends and Families of the South Florida Science Museum committee, Sarah Alsofrom and Virginia Oatley, were excited for the 2nd annual Barefoot on the Boat. The event, which featured cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres and an exclusive silent auction, united the young, hip, jet-setting crowd in support of science education. “First, I’d like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Vecellio for hosting this amazing event,” said Virginia Oatley. “We are truly grateful for all of the support they give to our Young Friends and Families group. We are also proud to say that monies raised from this event will give the Museum the opportunity to reach out to more children in Palm Beach County by bringing science education into their lives and hopefully inspiring them to become our science leaders of tomorrow.”

Guests included: Kathryn and Leo Vecellio, Michael Vecellio, Christopher Vecellio, Julie and Howard Rudolph, Dr. and Mrs. Carter Pottash, Virginia Oatley, Sarah Alsofrom, Dan Friedman, Alison Rogers-Haft and Stewart Haft, Angela Culveyhouse, Anna and Nick Loeb, Heather Greenhill, Rhys Williams, Helene and Matthew Lorentzen, Molly Stringer, and Courtney Klahre.
